Sewing Attempt...

I bought a pattern from etsy seller whimsycouture to make one of those criss cross pinafore dresses for my daughter. Before you check out my pictures just keep in mind my sewing machine and I have not been friends for years. I always wanted to like sewing...my family makes all kinds of beautiful quilts, clothes, you name it and they all look wonderful.
So the pattern I bought was perfect for me...lots of pictures with clear directions and it was mailed super quick! I bought fabric, wash and dried it. I even ironed it ( I used to try and get any without doing this step). I cut out my pieces still going well. And then I sewed and even ironed when it said so when it said to.

Here is the finished dress....

I was happy with it. It has no holes and looks like what is supposed. But there is one problem. It doesn't fit. So while I followed all the directions I did not measure my daughter :((which the directions did say to do but she was napping and I wanted to get started).
But I guess that just means I get to make another one.

Been Busy

I have been so busy making new items for the shop and for gifts. I think I know about 6 pregnant mamas right now.
I have been knitting a blanket, made my daughter a new tutu, and lots of hair accessories for the shop.
But my next venture is going to be sewing some baby shows. Should be interesting because my sewing machine and I do not get along.
Stay tuned for some pics!

New item in my shop

So I sort of fell in to this one. I bought some fabric covered buttons so I could make some Button Tab Hats . Of course I purchase them and when I get them I realize ok I can make these. So instead of making the hats ( spring is coming..I'm not really in the mood to knit hats) I made some ponytail holders. So I am now on a mission to find cute tiny print fabrics.
Check them out www.sarich215.etsy.com
I have some really cute fabrics on the way so hopefully I can get them made up asap.

Brrr! It is cold outside. Time to Knit!

I just started knitting in June...I think I am addicted. I think I like it because it is something I can do when I am watching tv with the kids or at night bed for bed. A few people ask me how I learned and I have to say mostly from youtube. My mom showed me a few things but if a pattern calls for a certain stitch I just youtube it.

I wanted to share the links I found most helpful.

Before watching anything I bought so yarn at Joann's and a pair of US8 needles.

It started here...I needed to learn to cast on and get going so I watched this

With this you can make a nice garter stitch scarf or I made a changing pad for my daughter.

Next I had to have a pumpkin hat for a Halloween costume. So you can't do that without a seam with straight needles so I had to venture into circular needles.

I googled for a pattern, bought more needles and yarn. Then watched this...

The first one titled Large Diameter Circular Knitting and then went on to watch the other one for Double Pointed Needles (DPNS).

Two other sites I found helpful are
It lists all the abbrieviations and what they are called..helps when you need to google for videos :)
Ravelry patterns, forums, everything for knitting.
Another tip for starting out...look for needles on www.etsy.com someone might be destashing one they don't need but you do. Also you can find people destashing their yarn here too. And don't forget coupons from Joann's and Michaels.

So my latest creations...

I decided to learn to knit this spring. After listening to my mom and sister talk about the class they took and seeing all of the things they made I just had to learn. So I checked out youtube (always my first stop when I want to learn something new). There are some great videos on there.

This one was helpful

After watching this I made a changing pad for my daughter's room.

But then I had to join ravelry.com

What an awesome site! I think that I have more patterns in my notebook on there than I will ever knit. So here are some of my latest creations......
I have some item listed in my etsy shop
